The Cheney

With all of the important business happening in the news over the weekend some missed an important piece of the puzzle. Dick Cheney took a major step to becoming the Darth Vader he, and his adoring public, always saw in him. Trading in his pulse for a mechanoheart, and his belly button for an outlet, we can see that his force is still strong.

Are we going too far by using the pronoun "it" to describe Cheney? Of course there are many people who suffer in the same way, but never had the chance to promote torture, and attack civil liberty in such broad scale; purging all decency from themselves. Without the benefit of this experience, we can hardly say they deserve to be brought to It's level.

The metaphor of this strange situation is that the brain of our society has for so long been cut off from it's heart, that they are both slowly dieing. As politicians are directed from above, we people suffer here below.

Then again, these types are filling an important role. Cycles of change are inevitable. Thinking in this way, true long term hope can be cultivated. Remember, the Empire didn't last forever. Unfortunately, though, we may have some time to wait for true change to come. Our Vader doesn't even have his cool black helmet yet.
